Watch our video about Manual Import
Contacts can be imported into your Symplify databases using the manual import option. To get started, open Contacts from the left-side navigation panel and select the database you want to import contacts into.
From the selected database, click Manage in the top-right corner. Choose Import in the menu and click Run a manual import at the bottom of the page.
Upload your import file by dragging and dropping it into the upload area, or browse your computer to select a file.
Import types
You’ll be prompted to select an import type. To ensure a successful import, your file must include a header row. The first row of your file is treated as headers and will not be imported as contact data.
Supported file types are:
- .txt
- .xlsx (will be converted to .csv during upload)
- .csv
Maximum file size: 12 MB
Map attributes
After selecting the import type, you’ll reach Map attributes. Here, the system automatically maps your file’s column headers to the correct contact attributes, according to the mapping setup in Account > Contact Data. For more details on how this mapping works, see our Magic mapping article.
If your file includes columns that cannot be automatically mapped, you won’t be able to proceed until the issue is resolved. To fix this:
- Click the pen icon next to the unmapped column.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Manually map the column to an existing attribute.
- Create a new attribute that corresponds to the column.
- Ignore the column for this import.
- Click Save to confirm your changes.
Below example shows three unmapped column headers:
- birthdate
- bonus
- memberSince
Taking actions for these three could look like this:
- Birthdate should be mapped to the existing attribute dateOfBirth which can be selected from the dropdown.
- Bonus is a new attribute that needs to be created. Select Create new from the dropdown, then click Create.
- MemberSince is not needed for this import, so simply toggle Import attribute off.
Now, your file is ready for import.
Start import
Click Continue to Start import to proceed.
On the next page, click Start import to begin importing your contacts.
