Custom tracking

Custom tracking offers you the option to build your own link tracking. Your tracking parameters will be automatically added to all links in your sendouts when sending.
The traffic analyzing service (i.e. Google Analytics) you use on your website can then pick up the parameters and provide the statistics that you want to visualize.

You can use both static and dynamic values in your tracking parameters. For example:

source=symplify
medium={{message.channel}}

Medium will then be dynamic depending on the channel you're sending with, i.e.:

example.com/deals?source=symplify&medium=email
or
example.com/deals?source=symplify&medium=sms

How to setup a custom tracking?

Find your way to Account setting > (Integration) > Tracking.

Select: Create new under Custom tracking and give it a name.

You can add as many parameters as you like and also set limits to each and every one specifically, such as if you should be able to change parameter value in the editor tracking field and/or if any added value in the URL-field itself should be kept or overwritten when email is being sent. You can also use placeholders with function as parameters if needed.

An example of the link extension with its URL parameters will be rendered below the tracking setup.

And the result in the editor settings page:

Overwrite or editable?

So, what to make of the Overwrite and Editable toggles? Basically you can control the possible level of parameter editing when creating a sendout.

With above settings you can edit the parameter in email editor and also set a different parameter value in any URL field in the editor.

With above settings you cannot edit the parameter in email editor and not set a different parameter value in any URL field in the editor without it being overwritten with the value set in Custom tracking.

With above settings you can edit the parameter in email editor but not set a different parameter value in any URL field in the editor without it being overwritten with the value set in Custom tracking.

With above settings you cannot edit the parameter in the editor but you can set a different parameter value in any URL field in the editor without it being overwritten with the value set in Custom tracking.

So with above settings in Custom tracking you can then in the editor edit the value for A and C, but not for B and D. Editable values have a solid underline and will turn blue when clicked.

And when it comes to the possibility to set specific values in the parameters in any of the URL fields in the editor based on a link with above tracking settings.

example.com?A=10A&B={{lower campaign.name}}&C={{project.name}}&D=symplify

You can manually set a different value for A and D

example.com?A=10B&B={{lower campaign.name}}&C={{project.name}}&D=symplify

and they will not be overwritten by the default set tracking parameter values.
