Dynamic web actions

A Dynamic web site is a set of pages. Actions connect the pages to the rest of Symplify: they can send an email, redirect the visitor, or update the contact, when a page loads or when a form is submitted.

Add an action

  1. Go to Web > Dynamic web and open your site. The Content tab shows your pages, with the Add actions panel on the right.
  2. Drag an action from the panel and drop it on a page.
  3. In the dialog, choose When the action runs: Never, On page load or On form submit. Fill in the other settings and click Save.

The actions are listed on each page. Click edit or delete next to an action to change or remove it.

Available actions

Send message actions

  • Send Email: sends an email when the page loads or the form is submitted.
  • Schedule Email: sends an email later, for example two days after the form is submitted.

Redirect actions

  • Dynamic Web Page: sends the visitor to another page, in this Dynamic web site or in another one.
  • External URL: sends the visitor to another website, for example your own.

Update contact actions

  • Subscribe to a list: adds the visitor to a Symplify database.
  • Unsubscribe from Email channel and Unsubscribe from Mobile channel: opts the visitor out of email or SMS.
  • Resubscribe to Email channel and Resubscribe to Mobile channel: opts the visitor back in to email or SMS.
  • Set an Attribute: saves a fixed value in an attribute on the visitor. This doesn't work on anonymous visits.
  • Set an Attribute From Parameter: saves a value from a query string parameter in the page URL.

Journey actions

  • Enter Journey: starts the visitor in a journey.

Example: an advent calendar sign-up

In this example, an email invites contacts to sign up for an advent calendar with a new offer every day. The email links to a Dynamic web site with two pages: Sign-up page and Confirmation page. When a contact submits the sign-up form, two things should happen: the contact is marked as signed up, and they see the confirmation page.

1. Mark the contact as signed up

Create an attribute called AdventCalendar. Drag Set an Attribute to the sign-up page. Choose On form submit, select the AdventCalendar attribute, enter the value yes and click Save.

2. Show the confirmation page

Drag Dynamic Web Page to the sign-up page. Choose On form submit and A page in this Dynamic Web, select Confirmation page and click Save.

The sign-up page now lists both actions:

3. Link to the page and target the contacts who signed up

In the invitation email, link to the sign-up page with its pageUrl handlebar. It is shown at the top of the Content tab, for example {{pageUrl 3104 1}}.

When the calendar starts, send the daily emails to a segment where AdventCalendar is yes. See How to create segments.
